Hamas’s chief negotiator, Khalil El-Hayya, said Tuesday that the group is seeking guarantees from U.S. President Donald Trump and other sponsor countries to ensure that the ongoing conflict with Israel ends permanently.
Speaking during indirect talks with Israel in Egypt, El-Hayya told Egyptian state-linked media Al-Qahera News: “We do not trust the occupation, not even for a second.” He was referring to Israel.
El-Hayya emphasized that Israel has historically failed to honor agreements, adding that Hamas experienced broken promises twice during the current war. “We want real guarantees,” he said, accusing Israel of violating two ceasefires during the ongoing conflict.
The remarks highlight Hamas’s insistence on international oversight to secure any ceasefire or peace arrangement in Gaza.
