Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to China from August 31 to September 3 for a series of high-level meetings and events, according to a statement from the Kremlin.
During the visit, Putin will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin and take part in commemorations in Beijing marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
The Russian leader is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as leaders from Iran and Turkey. Talks with China will take place in both formal and informal settings, covering issues such as relations with the United States and the Ukraine conflict. Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Belousov will also take part in closed discussions.
Reports suggest that a meeting between Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in China is being considered, though not yet confirmed. While there are no planned talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, both leaders are expected to attend the anniversary events.
Notably, U.S. President Donald Trump is not among the invited guests for the WWII commemoration.
Putin will be accompanied by a large Russian delegation, including three deputy prime ministers, over ten ministers, and senior executives from state corporations and major businesses.
