Libya detains five in suspected oil facility sabotage plot

Tripoli: Libyan police have arrested five persons, including foreign nationals, following a series of drone strikes on oil and other critical energy infrastructure in western Libya. The government said that the arrests revealed an organised "sabotage cell" behind the attacks.
The raids targeted the Zawiya oil complex, some 45-50 km west of Tripoli, with explosive-laden drones hitting fuel storage tanks and setting fires. The facility houses Libya's second-largest refinery, capable of producing approximately 120,000 barrels per day.
Authorities said the individuals were also related to planned assaults on a power facility south of Tripoli, as well as other key infrastructure. The government considered the incidents as part of a broader, planned sabotage campaign, and said that investigations are underway to determine who financed, supported, or organised the attacks.
The bombings have sparked new fears about the security of Libya's critical oil sector, as the country remains divided and unstable.
