Netanyahu Says Syria Ceasefire Came "By Force" After Israeli Strikes
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that a recent ceasefire in Syria was achieved through military pressure, not negotiations.
“It is a ceasefire obtained by force. Not by demands, not by pleas — by force,” Netanyahu stated, following Israeli airstrikes on military targets in Damascus.
The strikes came in response to attacks by Syrian government troops on the Druze community in southern Syria. The province of Sweida, considered the heartland of Syria’s Druze population, saw Syrian forces begin withdrawing on Wednesday evening, easing tensions in the area.
Netanyahu’s remarks underscore Israel’s firm stance against threats to regional minorities and its readiness to act militarily when necessary.
