Hamas Agrees to Ceasefire Proposal Including Hostage Release and 70-Day Truce
Talks on permanent ceasefire to follow with U.S. guarantees
GAZA – A Hamas official confirmed on Sunday that the group has agreed to a new ceasefire proposal presented by mediators, which includes the release of hostages and a temporary halt in hostilities.
According to the source, the proposal—delivered by intermediaries on behalf of U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff—outlines a 70-day truce and the release of 10 hostages in two separate batches.
"Hamas has agreed to the new proposal by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, which the movement received from mediators," the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the negotiations.
The official further noted that during the 70-day truce, negotiations would begin toward a permanent ceasefire, with guarantees from the United States to support and oversee the process.
The development signals a potential breakthrough in efforts to halt the conflict in Gaza, though the full details of the proposal and reactions from other stakeholders, including Israel, are yet to be publicly confirmed.
