Israeli Drone Strike Hits Gaza Aid Vessel in International Waters, Activists Say

An aid ship en route to Gaza was reportedly attacked by Israeli armed drones early Friday while sailing in international waters off the coast of Malta, according to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, the group organizing the humanitarian mission.

In an official statement, the coalition said the vessel Conscience came under direct fire at approximately 00:23 Maltese time. The drones allegedly struck the front of the unarmed civilian ship twice, igniting a fire and inflicting a significant breach in the hull.

The group accused Israel of carrying out the assault and called on governments worldwide to hold Israeli ambassadors accountable for what they described as a blatant violation of international law.

“The vessel was unarmed, carrying humanitarian aid and civilians,” the statement read. “This act not only endangers the lives of those on board but also defies global legal norms governing international waters and the delivery of humanitarian assistance.”

According to the group, the attack appeared to deliberately target the ship’s generator, disabling its power supply and placing the vessel at risk of sinking. Activists said there were representatives from 21 different countries on board the Conscience, all participating in a mission to break the blockade on Gaza and deliver life-saving supplies.

The incident has sparked renewed international concern about the safety of humanitarian missions heading to Gaza and the legality of military actions in international maritime zones. No injuries have been confirmed as of yet, but the condition of the vessel remains critical.

There has been no official response from the Israeli government at the time of reporting.
