Jordan's King Abdullah Presses Pause on Trump's Gaza Plan, Waits for Egypt's Proposal
Amid growing international attention on President Donald Trump's proposal for a takeover of Gaza, King Abdullah of Jordan has called for patience, indicating that Egypt will soon present a plan regarding cooperation with the United States on the matter. In a press briefing with reporters, King Abdullah stated that Egypt's plan would provide clarity on how the region could engage with Trump’s initiative.
“President Trump is looking to Egypt, who will present their plan, and leaders will meet in Saudi Arabia to discuss how we can collaborate with the president and the United States,” King Abdullah said. "Let’s wait until the Egyptians can present it to the president and not get ahead of ourselves," he added, emphasizing that Jordan would focus on its own national interests when considering the situation.
The remarks come after a meeting between King Abdullah and President Trump at the White House, where the two leaders discussed various regional issues.
In a separate development, President Trump addressed the ongoing ceasefire situation in Gaza, expressing doubt that Hamas would meet the Saturday deadline to return Israeli hostages. “I have a Saturday deadline, and I don’t think they’re going to make the deadline, personally,” Trump stated, adding, "I think they want to play tough guy, but we’ll see how tough they are."
Trump further warned that if the hostages were not released by the set deadline, there would be serious consequences. "They either have them out by Saturday at 12:00 or all bets are off," Trump declared, earlier warning of dire repercussions if the deadline was not met, saying that “hell” would break loose if Hamas did not return the hostages as promised.
