Bahrain top Arab squad in Asian wrestling

Bahrain secured the number one spot amongst Arab teams in the 2024 Asian Wrestling Championship, currently being held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The Kingdom’s squad won four medals, including one gold and three bronze.

That helped them secure eighth on the final standing of teams participating in the men’s freestyle wrestling competition, inckuding first from Arab nations, which features the participation of 23 teams from across the continent.

The gold medals were won by Akhmed Tazhudinov in the 97kg class, while the bronze were taken in the Khidir Saipudinov in the 79kg category, Magomed Sharipov in the 92kg class, and Shamil Sharipov in the 125kg competition.

On this occasion, His Highness Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Vice President of the General Sports Authority and Chairman of the Bahrain Combat Sports Council, praised this honourable result achieved by the national wrestling team, which is an addition to the series of positive results by the national team.

Bahrain is hoping to increase the number of wrestlers qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024, which already includes Tazhudinov.
