IronMan 70.3, triathlon final today

Under the patronage of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, the IronMan 70.3 Bahrain Championship and the final stage of Nasser Bin Hamad Triple Crown triathlon series gets under this morning at 7am.

The organising committee yesterday confirmed the race course, starting with a 1.9km swim starting at Khalifa bin Salman Park in Hidd, followed by 90km cycling through the Capital Governorate including Manama before heading south after passing Seef Mall and ending at Bahrain International Circuit, before a 21.1km run starting inside BIC and then surrounding area including Al Areen before finishing back at BIC.

The committee stated it had followed the instructions of Shaikh Nasser to complete all the necessary preparations to ensure the success of the race and promote Bahrain’s ability to host prominent international sports events.

Shaikh Nasser in the presence of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Athletic Federation, officially opened the IronMan 70.3 Bahrain Championship and the final stage of Nasser Bin Hamad Triple Crown triathlon series at Khalifa bin Salman Park yesterday.

Shaikh Nasser highlighted the competition will be tough with more than 1,100 local, regional and international triathletes competing for the championship’s title and also commended the participation of Bahrain Endurance 13 Ironman team members, who would enrich the race and promote triathlon sport among the Bahraini sports community.

Rules and regulations were displayed at the ceremony, in addition to the maps and routes of the race, with organisers answering questions by the participants.

Shaikh Nasser visited the start of the race course at Khalifa bin Salman Park and was briefed by organisers on final preparations and expressed his appreciation for their efforts and also completed his registration for the race. Bahrain Triathlon Team and Bahrain Endurance 13 Ironman team completed their final training sessions for the race and later met Shaikh Nasser.
