Souq gets special visitors

In an inspiring initiative, a group of differently-abled Bahrainis got a chance to tour the Souq yesterday.

As part of the efforts of the Manama Traditional Market Committee, 25 differently-abled Bahrainis got a chance to tour the souq, many of them for the first time. Speaking to DT News, Manama Traditional Market Committee Deputy Chairman Mahmood Al Namliti said, “The differently-abled are also an important part of the community and it was our responsibility to make them feel part of society,” he said.

“Everything went as planned and we are very happy over the outcome. Among the 25 attendees, 10 per cent were wheelchair-bound, 25pc suffered from upper body paralysis. It was great to see them having fun at the Souq during the two-hour visit that concluded at 11.30am. This was our first such programme and we plan to conduct more events in future. In two weeks, we will have a similar programme for the deaf,” he added.
