Bahrain Launches Women’s Equal Opportunities League Across Three Sports

The General Sports Authority has announced the launch of the Women’s Equal Opportunities League, a new initiative aimed at strengthening women’s participation in sports across Bahrain.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at Bahrain National Stadium, following directives from Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee.

The league is being organised in partnership with the equal opportunities committee in the sports sector, the Supreme Council for Women, the Ministry of Education, the Higher Education Council, and several sports federations.

The competition will feature football, basketball, and volleyball tournaments for participants aged 15 and above, with 18 teams set to compete across the three sports.

Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, CEO of the General Sports Authority, said the initiative reflects ongoing efforts to support women’s sports and create an organised environment that encourages participation and athletic development.

During the conference, organisers also unveiled the league’s official identity and logo, while outlining the competition schedule and the role of participating sports federations in supporting the initiative.
