Asian man gets jail in assault case
An Asian man accused of robbing an Indian man to settle an old debt has been handed down three years in jail. The defendant is said to have attacked the man along with three other men with a piece of metal.
After attacking the man brutally, the four defendants made away with BD430 on March 31. The police arrested one of them, while the other three are still at large.
“I lent him BD430, and he failed to pay it back to me. When I saw him, I requested him to pay the money. He offered to give me his driving licence to keep it with me until he repay the debt,” the defendant told prosecutors earlier. “While he was taking out the licence, he slipped and his wallet fell on the ground. Then I found the amount (BD430) inside it. So I took the money and left,” he added.
But the Public Prosecution found his account of the story was irrational and sent him for trial.
