Minister of Labour and Legal Affairs Yousuf bin Abdul-Husain Khalaf is leading Bahrain's delegation at the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC), held in Geneva from June 1–12, 2026. The delegation includes representatives from all three production sectors, Bahrain's Permanent Representative to the UN European Office Ambassador Abdullah Abdul-Latif Abdullah, and members of the kingdom's permanent mission in Geneva.
A Labour Market Built for the Future
Addressing the conference, Minister Khalaf highlighted Bahrain's strong track record in sustaining labour market growth—through supporting promising economic sectors, encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship, and advancing investment in the digital economy. He pointed to significant progress in digital and technical education and training programmes designed to meet tomorrow's workforce demands.
AI at the Heart of Bahrain's Vision
Minister Khalaf praised ILO Director-General Gilbert Houngbo's report, titled "Harnessing AI for Decent Work" — the centrepiece of this year's conference. He stressed that artificial intelligence has become integral to economic, social, and development policy, and reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment to preparing its national workforce in AI and digital technology, in line with Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030.
The minister also renewed Bahrain's condemnation of Iranian aggressions against the Kingdom, GCC states, and Jordan, affirming that Bahrain's wise leadership has steadily overcome all challenges while advancing economic and social development.
