The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications organised a “Cyclethon” event to mark World Bicycle Day, observed annually on June 3, in cooperation with the Bahrain Cycling Association and the Al Haraka Baraka Movement.

The event brought together cyclists and community participants in a public initiative aimed at promoting cycling as a healthy and sustainable mode of transport.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, said the ministry continues to implement projects and initiatives designed to strengthen cycling infrastructure across the Kingdom.

The minister also pointed to the cycling track in Madinat Salman, describing it as a leading example of modern infrastructure completed efficiently within a record timeframe. He said the project was developed in line with international standards for safety, sustainability, and quality.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla said the track provides a safe and inclusive space for users of all ages, while also supporting community connectivity and promoting healthier lifestyles aligned with the Kingdom’s urban development goals.

He added that World Bicycle Day serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the benefits of cycling as a practical transport option and to encourage more sustainable mobility habits.

The minister further noted that expanding cycling infrastructure supports Bahrain’s broader environmental objectives, including its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.
