Rioters jailed for attacking police patrol
Seventeen defendants implicated in attacking a police patrol with firebombs in Bani Jamra have been jailed. Eight of them were yesterday handed down five years in prison each, while the remaining suspects received only three years imprisonment.
The first defendant was given extra three years in jail, bringing his tally to eight years for possessing bullets. The defendants are believed to be among the 40 protesters, who rioted in the village of Bani Jamra. They hid in a graveyard and awaited the police to arrive.
As soon as a police patrol reached the area, they showered it with firebombs and iron rods. The defendants’ involvement came to light after police investigations.
