Bahraini Health Minister calls at SMC, takes stock of services

Health Minister Faeqa bint Saeed Al Saleh conducted an inspection to the Hereditary Blood Diseases Centre at the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) yesterday. During her visit, the Minister met a group of doctors, staff and a number of patients and inspected the health quality services. 

The Health Minister urged the medical staff at the  Hereditary Blood Diseases centre to apply more efforts for their patients, pointing out that the emergency department was the first resort of the patient for help. “So, it’s necessary to develop services in this crucial department for a speedy and accurate diagnosis and treatment.”

She pointed out the significance of providing the best comprehensive health services for to ease their physical and psychological suffering.

There are about 90 beds on four floors in the Hereditary Blood Diseases centre.

The Minister discussed with the head of the department about the obstacles and challenges the centre was facing. She also listened to a number of the sickle cell patients’ remarks on the health services.

Bahrain Society for Sickle Cell Anaemia Patients Chairman Zakaria Al Kadhim praised the SMC for its big role in saving patients’ lives. 

He also said there were many issues that need further attention and solution that can be found with the cooperation of the Health Ministry and Society for Sickle Cell Anaemia.

He cited demands like increasing the number of specialised medical staff for the treatment of genetic blood diseases and spreading educational awareness on the diagnosis and prevention of physical and verbal triggers.
