Bahraini national boxer Ali Bukhalaf won the gold medal in the 63.5kg category at the fifth edition of the Sarawak International Open Boxing Championship in Malaysia, delivering a dominant display of technical skill throughout the competition.
Bukhalaf controlled his bouts from start to finish, asserting his superiority over opponents across all rounds to claim the title convincingly.
Bahrain Boxing Federation President Rashid Isa Flayfel hailed the result as a timely and significant confidence boost, with Bukhalaf now set to compete at the Asian U23 Boxing Championship in Indonesia, running from July 3 to 16.
Flayfel said preparations for the championship are advancing according to a structured technical plan developed in coordination with national team head coach John Conlan. This plan focuses on sharpening performance levels ahead of what he described as a major international test.
The federation president also highlighted the contribution of JD Boxing Club, led by national coach Jassim Darwish, in nurturing young Bahraini boxing talent — crediting the club as a key pillar in building the next generation of competitive athletes capable of representing the kingdom on the world stage.
Flayfel extended his best wishes to Bukhalaf for the upcoming Asian U23 campaign, expressing confidence that Bahrain's emerging boxers represent the future of the sport in the kingdom and carry the potential to deliver further international success.
