Arab Food Security Index on way

The Arab Observatory for Human Rights had adopted a proposal to launch the Arab Food Security Index. The mechanism aims at creating an Arab strategy with international standards to determine the food security index in Arab countries, considering the low rank of many countries in the global food security index.

The move also focuses on avoiding the threats facing the whole world regarding the level of food abundance and the sustainability of its supply. The proposal was by Dr Jihad Abdullah Al-Fadil, Chairman of the Services Committee of the Shura Council and member of the Board of Trustees, said Adel bin Abdul Rahman Al-Asoumi, the Speaker of the Arab Parliament and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Observatory for Human Rights.

The decision came during a meeting held in Cairo on Wednesday. "The proposal is of paramount importance in light of the challenges of sustainable food systems whose effects were evident during the Covid 19 pandemic," said Al Asoumi. The observatory also disclosed the organization of a conference specialized in food security in the Arab world.
