Illuminated gates light up Bahrain National Day celebrations

Southern Municipality yesterday switched on several illuminated corridors near Bahrain International Stadium, lighting up the celebration of National Days.

Illuminated corridors, arranged in distinctive shapes and patterns, were inaugurated by the Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Essam Khalaf.

The gates are near December 16 street near Bahrain International Stadium.

Following the inauguration, the minister toured the site with the Director-General of the Municipality of the Southern Region, Asim Abdul Latif.

Explaining the features of this year’s celebration, Latif said the authorities also decorated the lighting lamps at the venue, over 150 meters, with flags and slogans.

The illuminated corridors also allow cars to drive through for people to enjoy the view to the fullest.

The authorities had also set up a 100 meters long illuminated corridor with 32 gates with eye-catching geometric patterns and shapes.

Chairman of the Southern Municipal Council, Badr Al-Tamimi, the Director-General of the Southern Region Municipality, Assem Abdul Latif Abdullah, and the Deputy Governor of the Southern Governorate, Issa Thamer Al-Dosari, and members of the Southern Region Municipal Council were present.

The celebrations commemorate the establishment of the modern Bahraini State as an Arab and Muslim state, founded by Ahmed Al Fateh in 1783, and the anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Accession to the Throne.

The governorate also held its first event marking the national days at the vicinity of the Shaikh Salman bin Ahmed Al Fateh Fort, under the patronage of Southern Governor His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.

The festivities featured poetry recitals by Abdulla bin Huweil, which expressed deep allegiance and belonging to the homeland.

The police music band and the Bahrain Ardah Society also took part in the celebrations, which attracted many citizens.

The Southern Governorate has lined up a rich programme to celebrate the national days, running from today until December 18.

Festival at Heritage village

Information Minister Ali bin Mohammed Al-Romaihi yesterday inaugurated the National Day Festival at the Heritage Village in the Southern Governorate.

Musical shows by folk bands and a market are part of the village.

“During the glorious National Days, we renew our allegiance and loyalty to HM King Hamad and pledge to follow in HM’s footsteps and directives towards more giving for the sake of the nation,” the minister said.

Al-Romaihi pointed out that the Information Affairs Ministry is organising the festival to highlight the importance of the Heritage Village, which is a national monument.
