Arab Parliament Speaker Adel bin Abdulrahman Al Asoomi has lauded His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s ratification and issuance of Law 4/2021 on the promulgation of the Corrective Justice Law for Children and their Protection from Ill-Treatment, noting that the qualitative move adds to the kingdom’s record of continuously upgrading the human rights system.

The Speaker asserted that the legislation will achieve restorative justice for children throughout the stages of criminal cases, including investigation, trial and verdict execution, adding that it will provide maximum protection for children and ensure that they are not subject to any form of exploitation.

It will also provide all support children and ensure their reintegration into society, in accordance with international human rights standards, and the international treaties and agreements ratified by the kingdom, he said.

Al Asoomi appreciated the keenness of the kingdom’s officials to conduct extensive consultations with those concerned with this law, whether at the national level or at the international level, through cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), which was one of the parties to these consultations.

This reflects Bahrain’s keenness to fulfil its international obligations and ensure that the law meets all the requirements of the international human rights law, which has been widely praised by the concerned international institutions, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and UNICEF, he added.

The Speaker called for spreading this experience across the Arab countries, through issuing similar laws to promote and protect the rights of Arab children, who represent the main pillars for Arab countries’ development.
