FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has highlighted the growing importance of the Asia-Pacific region to the future of motor sport and mobility ahead of the FIA Asia Pacific Congress in the Philippines.

The annual congress, hosted by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP), will bring together around 120 delegates from FIA Member Clubs across Asia and the Pacific for three days of discussions, collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The event begins Tuesday in Boracay and will focus on road safety, sustainable mobility, innovation and expanding access to motor sport.

“The Asia-Pacific region is central to the future of both mobility and motor sport, and our Member Clubs are at the heart of that progress,” Ben Sulayem said.

He said FIA Member Clubs across the region were contributing to road safety, embracing innovation and creating opportunities for greater participation in motor sport.

The congress will address mobility issues including road safety, sustainable and accessible transport, tourism and changing demands among road users.

Motor sport discussions will focus on increasing participation, strengthening grassroots competition and developing more accessible pathways into the sport, in line with the FIA’s goal of making motor sport more affordable and accessible worldwide.

FIA Region II President and AAP President Augustus ‘Joe’ Ferreria said the congress would allow Member Clubs to exchange knowledge, identify common challenges and develop solutions suited to the region.

The meeting comes as the FIA expands its Safe Mobility 4 All & 4 Life programme across Asia-Pacific, providing training and practical tools to support road safety efforts.

The FIA Innovation Challenge will also feature as part of the organisation’s efforts to highlight club-led solutions that can be adapted and expanded across the region.

Asia-Pacific continues to play a significant role in international motor sport, ranging from grassroots competition and regional championships to major FIA World Championships.

The congress will also take place ahead of Malaysia’s hosting of the Bahrain Grand Prix in the days following the event.
