Opposition’s Geneva event bit the dust: MP
Manama
---
Bahrain Parliament Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee Deputy Chairman Jamal Buhassan said that the discussion session that was organised by members of Bahrain opposition in Geneva, Switzerland was a failure and it was serving the Iranian agenda in the region.
The conference was organised in Geneva by several members, who apparently represent the Bahraini opposition. It came on the sidelines of the ongoing 30th regular session at the Human Rights Council, which was inaugurated there on Monday and will conclude on October 2.
He said a large number of the attendees of the event were members of the Iranian and Syrian intelligence authorities, in addition to representatives of the rebellious and Iran-backed Huthi Militias from Yemen.
“They are claiming that they are protecting the freedom of expression, the culture of dialogue and the respect of others’ opinions. But they proved the opposite in their convention. My request to give a statement at the event was ignored. Despite raising my hand throughout the session, I was not granted a single minute to express my views,” he groused.
Buhassan queried: “If they don’t accept that I’m a representative of the people of Bahrain, how are they expect to sit at one table with the government holding such one-sided policy.”
The MP said his trip to Geneva was a self-financed trip and not an official trip. He added that it’s his desire to be present and listen to the grievances, views and demands of the opposition.
Terming the event as a failure, he alleged that “all of the subjects discussed at the session were lies and allegations with no solid proof.”
However, Buhassan has decided to attend the next two sessions today and on September 21.
