Give helicopters to Coast Guards, MP demands
Manama
Head of Public Utilities and Environment Committee Jamal Dawood urged the government to provide high-tech helicopters to Coast guards to keep an eye on territorial waters of Bahrain and foil any attempt of arms smuggling from Iran, in a conversation with DT News yesterday.
He said helicopters should be equipped with most-modern surveillance tools so that nothing skips their watchful eyes.
He said the Iranian borders have become a headache for the Bahraini security forces as attempts to smuggle weapons and explosives into Bahrain by boats keep continuing.
Interior Ministry seized 44 kilograms of the powerful explosive C4, eight Kalashnikovs, 32 Kalashnikov magazines, and ammunition and detonators at the end of July. The suspects had admitted receiving the weapons from Iranian handlers outside Bahrain’s territorial waters.
“If the surveillance of the territorial waters of Bahrain is increased and updated, it would ensure better peace and security of the Kingdom,” he urged.
Iranian Supreme Leader had given a statement after the nuclear deal with six world powers that Iran will continue its interference in Bahrain, Yemen and Syria.
In view of such statements such statements the surveillance of Iranian borders becomes become a matter of paramount importance, he stated.
Revival of Press and Publication Dept
Dawood added the revival of the Press and Publication Department was the need of the hour and the Ministry of Information should think over this issue very seriously.
He said censorship is very important in a country like Bahrain, where some foreign powers are trying to corrupt the minds of the youth with their poisonous propaganda.
He said the department should also bring back all the publications necessary for the people of Bahrain.
It is worth noting the Information Minister Isa bin Abdulrahman Al Hammadi said on Monday the ministry would keep an eye on local and international content to ensure that the media houses project the true development achieved by Bahrain.
