BCCI board slammed for ‘Whatsapp meetings’

ManamaMahmoud Al Namliti, businessman and a candidate for the upcoming Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) elections, has strongly criticised the outgoing board for holding ‘Whatsapp meetings’ over face-to-face meetings.

The BCCI board rarely had ‘Whatsapp meetings’ over face to face meetings. Criticising the trend, he said this has caused delays in making important decisions, spread misunderstandings and affected in the spirit of teamwork.

“It is vital to have teamwork within the board, there must be a harmony among members. In the past few years there has been disputes and power play, this is not something we want to see again. We need to have unity among the board members and the board needs to function well as a team,” he said.

“There is no replacement for team meetings, using Whatsapp cannot replace it. What if there is an urgent matter, if they get Whatsapp responses after a day, it’s going to slow things down. When there is a meeting, everyone has to drop everything and prioritize the matter to get the responses immediately,” he said.

“The past four years have been disappointing, nothing much has been achieved. The coming years will be vital, we have been going through tough economic conditions and it will take smart thinking and bold action to take us forward,” he said.

BCCI will start receiving voters’ applications for data insertion/amendment starting today until February 20, 2018 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the chamber’s main premises (Bait Al Tijjar). Those who have registered can find out whether they have been accepted to be eligible to vote form the BCCI website www.bcci.bh
