Bahrain is strengthening its national and regional approach to combating human trafficking, with greater emphasis on research, coordination and the exchange of international expertise.

The National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons discussed these efforts during its regular meeting, held via videoconference and chaired by Nibras Mohammed Taleb, Chief Executive of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and Chairman of the Committee.

Taleb stressed the importance of building on the progress achieved through national efforts to combat trafficking in persons, while enhancing coordination among the authorities involved in prevention and protection.

He also called for continued efforts to keep pace with developments in trafficking-related crimes and improve response mechanisms.

Highlighting research's role in strengthening the fight against trafficking, Taleb pointed to the Ministry of Interior’s launch of a Scientific Research Award dedicated to the field.

He said the initiative would support specialised studies, contribute to developing national policies and encourage innovative solutions to address trafficking crimes.

The Committee also reviewed the implementation of decisions and recommendations from its previous meeting, including measures taken by relevant authorities to improve coordination and strengthen the overall national response.
