Al Sayyad wins Saudi Super Cup

Bahrain handball captain Hussain Al Sayyad added another trophy to his collection on Friday after helping Al Khaleej defeat Al Noor 22-15 to lift the Saudi Super Cup.

The triumph marked Al Khaleej's second successive Super Cup crown and fourth overall, while also giving the Sajhat-based side their first trophy of the new season.

Al Sayyad contributed three goals in the victory at Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Sports City Hall in Qatif, where Al Khaleej led 12-10 at half-time following a closely contested opening period.

They took control after the break as Al Noor struggled in attack, gradually extending their advantage before completing a seven-goal victory. The latest success adds to Al Sayyad's collection of honours with Al Khaleej, including the historic 26th Asian Men's Club League Handball Championship in November 2023, when the club captured their maiden continental title and the Bahraini star was named the tournament's MVP.

He also helped the Saudi side lift the 22nd Elite Handball Championship Cup in June 2024.

There was further Bahraini success last weekend, with Sayed Redha Al Moussawi celebrating his first title as a technical analyst with Al Khaleej's first team coaching staff.

Al Moussawi took up the role this season, succeeding fellow Bahraini Hussain Ali, who left the Saudi club to join Barbar.
