Lifetime achievement award for Afridi

Manama : Pakistan’s Ambassador to Bahrain, Javed Malik presented Lifetime Achievement Award to Shahid Afridi who is one of the most prolific and distinguished cricketers in the world.   

Shahid Afridi who was on a private visit to Bahrain visited the Pakistan Embassy to meet with the Ambassador and also discuss ways to expand sports and youth linkages between Pakistan and Bahrain.  

Speaking after presenting the Award to Shahid Afridi,  Ambassador Javed Malik said, “Shahid Afridi is without doubt one of the most accomplished sportsmen of our country and his achievements in the field of cricket are globally recognised.” The appreciation ceremony was held at Gulf Hotel on Friday. 

He said that during his illustrious career, Afridi not only won countless matches for Pakistan but also won the hearts of millions with his spectacular performance with the bat as well as the ball, and he is indeed a true icon for the Youth.   

While thanking Ambassador Javed Malik and the Pakistani community in Bahrain, Shahid Afridi said that he was extremely grateful for the love and appreciation that he has received in Bahrain and said that Bahrain is one of his favourite countries to visit and meet people.

Speaking to the media after the event, Ambassador Javed Malik said that efforts were underway to promote closer linkages between Pakistan and Bahrain in the field of sports and to visits by sporting icons like Shahid Afridi would help pave the way of these efforts. 

He said that plans are being made to organise some friendly matches between both counties and expand the cooperation particularly in the sectors of youth and sports so that our future generations also continue the legacy of strong brotherly ties between Pakistan and Bahrain. 

He also said that the Pakistani and Bahraini community are working together on the initiative and appreciated the role of Sufyan Usman in this regard.
