Athletic performance lab opens

Manama : The Bahrain Olympic Committee’s (BOC) Athletic Performance Lab is now providing medical services for all athletes in Bahrain, following a committee announcement yesterday.

This decision was due to the recently increased number of sudden death cases for several national and expatriate athletes during exercise. The Lab was only open to national teams athletes in the past, but is now allowing all athletes in Bahrain to perform health checkups prior to their respective exercises. The initiative is in compliance to the directives of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and BOC President, to provide optimum medical services for Bahrain’s athletes.

BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar said the committee will soon purchase all necessary equipment to offer medical and physical tests for any athlete wishing to conduct a specific exercise to ensure their safety.

Abdulrahman Askar stressed that the efforts of the BOC in this regard is in line with its strategy to promote public health within society and its responsibility towards all members of the community in Bahrain.
