19,682 foreigners working in health sector: Minister

ManamaThere are 19,682 expatriates working in medical professions in Bahrain, Health Minister Faeqa Al Saleh told the House of Representatives, recently.

In a reply to queries submitted by MP Fatima Al Asfoor in the House, Al Saleh revealed that the latest data showed 1,358 non-Bahraini doctors work in public sectors health institutions, in addition to 57 dentists and 6,120 nurses.

The minister also mentioned in her reply that 226 expats work in public pharmaceutical establishments and 1,232 hold assistive professions in the same sector.

As for the private sector, figures showed that private hospitals and clinics have 2, 791 non-Bahraini doctors and 10, 461 nurses, in addition to 1, 346 employees working in the pharmaceutical sector.

The minister’s reply would be reviewed and discussed in the next regular weekly meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

The discussion, which is scheduled to be held in the presence of the minister, may see the participation of other MPs along with Al Asfoor, as many of them previously raised the issue of unemployed Bahraini medical professionals.
