Bahrain’s military team ride to glory

LondonHis Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and British Queen Elizabeth II yesterday crowned the winners of the military show-jumping championship held as part of the international Royal Windsor Horse Show. 

Bahraini military team, which includes Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, First Sergeant Ahmed Mansour and First Soldier Saber Hassanj as team members, finished first in the military show-jumping championship. 

Royal Endurance Team riders Jaffer Mirza, who finished fifth in the 120-km race and Ali Al-Subai, who won the 80-km race were also honoured by HM the King. 

The championship, held for the Cup of HM the King and the Cup of the military show-jumping, was attended by leading British personalities as well as equestrian sports fans. 

Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HM the King’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President, presented HM the King’s Showjumping Cup to Egyptian Abd Al Said.

Thanking Queen Elizabeth II for the warm welcome and hospitality, HM the King said, “Bahrain’s participation in the race stems from deep and historic relations bonding the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom.”

King Hamad also affirmed Bahrain’s keenness to participate in such glorious and highly- competitive races which attract teams from all over the world. 

BDF Military Sport Federation Secretary-General Commodore No’man Rashid Al-Hassan introduced to HM the King members of the military team, which clinched the military championship.

Bahrain Authority for Tourism and Exhibition (BATE) held a pavilion, on the sidelines of the championship, showcasing traditional handicrafts and folklore. 

The BATE delegation also promoted Bahrain as a tourism destination.
