At Least 27 Dead After Russian Strike on Warehouse Near Kyiv

KYIV: A Russian drone strike on a warehouse in the town of Myla, near Kyiv's western suburbs, killed at least 27 people overnight and triggered a massive fire alongside secondary explosions.

Ukrainian prosecutors opened a criminal negligence investigation into the incident, stating that the facility appeared to have been storing ‘explosive objects’. 

Local governor Tymur Tkachenko confirmed the death toll, noting that village mayor Taras Didych was among the victims and warning the casualty count could rise.

The investigation will examine whether the unnamed enterprise possessed the necessary state permits to store explosive materials near residential areas. The strike comes amid intensified long-range attacks between Russia and Ukraine, which have driven civilian casualties to record levels in recent months.

Prime Minister Sergiy Koretsky sharply criticized safety oversights, calling the failure to prevent such hazards ‘criminal negligence’ in the fifth year of the invasion. 

Citing a similar deadly munitions depot attack in nearby Vyshneve in July, Koretsky demanded severe punishment for those responsible to ensure safety standards are strictly enforced.
