Cops arrest Romeo conman for blackmailing women with nude photos

ManamaA Romeo conman accused of duping women into marriage with an intention to blackmail them by clicking their nude photos later has run into police net.

The man, whose identity is not disclosed, used his good looks and charm to trick women, who were finding it difficult to get a partner because of their age or looks, investigators said.

Investigators later found that he was also linked to a robbery in the Northern Governorate.

His luck ran out when one of the victims decided to report him to the police, said Interior Ministry in its publication Al Amn adding: “the woman soon developed cold feet, and wanted to take back her complaint.”

The ministry, however, decided to continue with the investigation and found that the suspect has been active in his trade for ‘several years’.

“After the woman withdrew her complaint, we found out that he was involved in a robbery case in Karzakan as well,” said Head of Investigation at the Northern Governorate Police Directorate Captain Turki Al Majid.

Al Majid said that the man convinced his victims to allow him to take their nude pictures, which he later used to blackmail them by saying, “he would make it public if he isn’t paid”.

During the course of the investigation, 29 victims came forward to press charges against him.

The suspect, according to Al Amn, is 41 years old and has been conning women into marriage, since the age of 37.

“He took advantage of his good looks and sweet talking to cheat his victims, who were desperate to get married. He told the women that he was a widower and wanted to settle down with them,” Al Majid said.

“His first victim was a woman in her mid-thirties and managed to extort BD1,500 from her.

“He then turned his eyes on another woman, who was floored by his looks. She paid him BD1,500 for accepting her marriage request.

“After the marriage, he allegedly took some gold from the woman and divorced her,” the report stated.

The suspect admitted to the investigators that he told women: “He was the only son in the family and his father insisted that his future wife should pay cash to marry him.”

When questioned by police, the suspect confessed to the crimes.
