8 Held Over 17kg Narcotics Smuggling

Authorities have arrested eight individuals of various nationalities in two separate cases involving attempts to smuggle more than 17 kilograms of narcotics into the Kingdom through Bahrain International Airport, the Interior Ministry said.

The seized drugs had an estimated market value of around BD235,500.

The arrests were carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Directorate of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science, in cooperation with Bahrain International Airport Customs, as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and protect society from the dangers of narcotics.

According to the ministry, authorities launched search and investigation operations after receiving information about the two cases. The investigations led to the identification of the suspects.

Some of the suspects were arrested at the airport's entry point, while others were apprehended at locations inside the Kingdom. The narcotics were found in their possession.

Legal procedures have been completed, and the two cases are being referred to the Public Prosecution for further action.

The General Directorate stressed the importance of community cooperation in efforts to combat drug trafficking and raise public awareness of the dangers of narcotics.

Members of the public are urged to report any information related to drug-related activities through the hotline 996 or by email at 996@interior.gov.bh. The ministry assured that the confidentiality of information provided would be fully maintained.
