Forging stronger ties

Manama : Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte will arrive in Bahrain today on a two-day visit to the Kingdom. Duterte is on a multi-nation tour, which started with a visit to Saudi Arabia. The visit is expected to bolster the already strong ties between Bahrain and the Philippines, said Philippines Ambassador Alfonso A. Ver. An official welcoming ceremony will be held this evening and the president is expected to meet His Majesty the King.

Speaking to DT News, the ambassador said that the president will discuss a wide range of topics. “The president will discuss private sector business deals as well as agreements with the Bahrain government. He will also discuss the welfare of the community members here,” he said.

Four thousand Philippines nationals will attend the event at the Khalifa Sports City Complex in Isa Town tomorrow to witness the president. “The registration for this event was online and it had to be closed very quickly. There was a huge demand to register, people are still calling the embassy to see if there is a way for them to attend the event, “ he said.

The Ambassador informed that several business deals could also manifest. “A Bahraini company is interested in a 250 million dollar investment in the Philippines. It is an investment in an agricultural product.” he said, adding, “This visit by the president will further strengthen the already close ties between Bahrain and the Philippines, “ he said.
