Ill-treated animals rescued

…The rescued animals were living in terrible conditions

Manama

An animal welfare organization has rescued numerous ill-treated animals in a farm in Muharraq.

Numerous cows and sheep were found to be malnourished and living in terrible conditions, Bahrain Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) stated.

On Sunday, the organization released photos of the farm and poor conditions the animals were living in.

BSPCA stated that this came to light after organization's chairman Mahmood Faraj personally visited the farm.

After discussions, the owner of the farm agreed to do the needful for the rehabilitation and welfare of the animals.

"Our chairman came across a farm in Muharraq where the animals were living in terrible conditions. They were not fed properly and the water troughs were completely dry. All the animals were emaciated, many were sick and their hooves were allowed to overgrow. Some of the animals could hardly walk.  Mahmood found out the owner and asked him to come to the farm to see the condition of the animals," the organization stated.

The organization also stated that the owner said he had no time to visit the farm for the past two months, as he was busy with and construction business and relied upon his farm worker to take care of them.

According to the statement , Mahmood pointed out the dreadful state of the animals and asked the owner to make arrangements for the place to be cleaned and also asked to supply water immediately, the statement said.

"Fortunately, the animals now receive food twice a day. The water trough will be daily cleaned and topped up. He was also asked to make sure someone trims the hooves and ensure that that a vet visits the farm at-least twice a month. The owner was very contrite and agreed to carry out all these requirements,” the statement said.

This doesn’t end here. Mahmood will also pass by the farm daily to make sure the promise is kept. If not, he will inform the police.
