AGU wins global award for creative teaching methods
Manama : In another extraordinary achievement, the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) has bagged the “Introducing Innovations in Teaching Pedagogy” Award at the 8th edition of the World Education Summit held recently in the Kingdom under the patronage of Education Minister Dr Majid Al Nuaimi.
The event, held under the theme “ICT and Creativity for a Better Future”, featured a host of renowned academic figures, thinkers and leaders in the field of education from across the globe.
President of AGU Dr Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al-Ohaly highlighted that the award, which encourages innovations and the launch
of unique projects and initiatives, is another exceptional achievement for AGU.
“Upgrading education and scientific research have always been at the top of AGU’s priorities, given the fact that it is a joint GCC establishment which has been actively contributing to the field of development in the region. AGU has been at the forefront in introducing innovative academic programmes and researches, in the areas of development and health in GCC,” he stated.
He also underlined the important role of information and communications technology to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
For his part, Vice President of AGU, Dr Khaled Saeed Tabara affirmed AGU’s constant endeavour towards innovation and developing its curriculum, as well as the learning methods used in the University. He noted AGU’s efforts towards transition to e-learning and taking full advantage of its tools in the field of health and medical sciences, as well as higher education.
“Achieving this award reflects AGU’s efforts in adopting innovative approaches to education, while, at the same time, maintaining high-quality programmes that take full advantage of modern technology,” he said.
“AGU deserved this major award thanks to it adopting modern educational strategies that base its operations on ICT rather than traditional methods that rely on papers. We have recently introduced the UNIO Programme in learning which won the Bronze medal during an international conference,” Dr Rima Lutfi Abdulrazaq, Associate Professor in the Physiology Department said.
“Moreover, AGU has been cooperating with the King Hamad University Hospital to web cast live surgeries to students in classroom setting,” she added.
Dr Rima also enumerated other newly-introduced innovative technologies at the university to help students observe top-end education, including a clinical simulation centre and animatronic dummies.
