A 28-year-old Bahraini man attempted to circulate counterfeit money by using it at a hotel and a supermarket. Employees at both locations noticed the fake bills and reported the incidents to the police, who tracked and arrested the suspect.

During the investigation, the man admitted that he knew the bills were counterfeit and had obtained them from another person. He intended to use and circulate the fake currency for personal gain.

According to the details, the suspect went to a hotel and rented a room, paying 20 BHD. The receptionist returned 10 BHD as change but became suspicious of the bill and informed the hotel owner, who confirmed it was counterfeit and filed a report. Hours later, a supermarket employee filed a similar complaint after the suspect attempted to purchase goods using another counterfeit 20 BHD note.

Police set up a trap and arrested the man. During questioning, he admitted to using the fake money to pay for the hotel room and buy items, keeping the remaining genuine money. Authorities also found additional counterfeit bills hidden in his cigarette pack.

A forgery expert confirmed that the counterfeit bills closely resembled real currency, and could easily deceive an ordinary person. The Public Prosecution stated that, during 2025, the suspect obtained the counterfeit money intending to circulate it and used it at commercial establishments to acquire property belonging to others.

The court has scheduled the case for judgment on March 17.
