Roads to 28 public schools were blocked. Iron rods were fixed on the roads near the schools. Trash bins were also set on fire to block the roads.

“Objects like branches of trees, rocks, garbage and wooden planks were also used for the same purpose, forcing teachers and students to get dropped off far from schools and walk,” the statement said.

Villages flooded

As a result of vandalism acts and roadblocks, some villages in the Northern Governorate were inundated in rainwater as water tankers were not able to enter and drain water yesterday.

“Considering the acts carried out by some vandals who blocked the roads in some areas, the municipality could not respond to some complaints on rainwater flooding,” said Northern Area Municipality Hygiene Department Head, Hussain Abdulkhaliq.

The official said the municipality has responded to 80 cases reported during the past three days, utilising 27 tankers. He called upon citizens and residents to report any flooding to the municipality on the hotline, social media or smart phones app.
