First phase of Al Jasra project completed

ManamaWorks, Municipality Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf launched a new ramp from Al Janabiya Road towards Manama as part of the Al Jasra intersection project.

This project comes under a group of projects to improve entrances to the Northern city as Al Janabiya road is considered to be a main entrance road, Minister Khalaf stated.

He pointed out that the project will reduce congestion during peak hours and decrease traffic jams on the south side of Al Janabiya Road. Besides, there will be a 1,400 metre slope that will link Al Janabiya Road with Shaikh Isa bin Salman Road to create a smoother traffic flow.

The ministry has taken precautions to protect the main 400kv power grid to ensure that it was not affected during the construction process, Khalaf stated.

He also pointed out that the project included paving sidewalks, installation of traffic signals, warning signs and lights to ensure the necessary safety at the intersection.

Khalaf said the ministry had coordinated with the contractor of the project in order to speed up the launch of the ramp. This was to ensure that the opening coincides with the back-to-school season.

The Al Janabiya Road will be extended from two lanes to three on both sides and the Isa bin Salman Road will be extended from three to four lanes on both sides, he added.

The launch of the new ramp was attended by Works Ministry’s Roads Assistant Undersecretary Huda Fakhro, Roads Planning and Design Director Kadhim Abdul Latif, Roads Projects and Maintenance Director Sayyed Bader Alawi and Project Manager Fahad Buallay.

It is worth noting that the second phase of the intersection will have additional changes to ensure a more fluid traffic flow in all directions by having a road that will carry traffic from the north side of Isa bin Salman Road to the Crown Prince Road without any stop.
