KHGC Chairman meets His Holiness Pope Tawadros
Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Hamad Global Centre for Coexistence and Tolerance, met with His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, during his official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The meeting was attended by members of the Centre’s Board of Trustees, Salah Yusuf Al Jowder and His Grace Bishop Julius, General Bishop of Old Cairo Churches and the Bishopric of Public and Social Services.
Discussions focused on strengthening communication between religious communities and exploring ways to encourage greater understanding and cooperation among people of different faiths and cultural backgrounds.
Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to promoting coexistence and respect for religious and cultural diversity, under the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He highlighted the Kingdom’s experience in supporting dialogue and peaceful engagement, as well as the international work of the King Hamad Global Centre for Coexistence and Tolerance.
Among the initiatives highlighted was the King Hamad Award for Coexistence and Tolerance, which supports efforts that contribute to advancing understanding, respect and peaceful relations among different communities.
The discussions also examined the role of religious institutions in strengthening the principles of human fraternity and mutual respect. Both sides stressed the importance of creating stronger links between faith communities and supporting initiatives that contribute to social cohesion.
Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed also emphasised the importance of continued engagement between institutions and religious leaders in addressing challenges that can create divisions within societies, while promoting values that bring communities together.
His Holiness Pope Tawadros II commended the Kingdom of Bahrain’s efforts to advance coexistence, tolerance and interfaith and intercultural dialogue.
He also stressed the importance of maintaining cooperation between the two sides and supporting initiatives that can contribute to spreading a culture of peace, love and understanding among different communities.
The meeting reflected a shared emphasis on dialogue and mutual respect as foundations for stronger relations between religious communities and greater social harmony.
