Lawyers acquitted of embezzlement case

Two lawyers accused of embezzlement have been acquitted due to lack of proof. They were put on trial after a local company owner claimed that the duo had pocketed an amount given to them to settle a case. They reportedly received BD8,400 from the company. The owner said in his statement: "But when I went to check, I found that they had only deposited part of the money and kept the remaining of the amount with them."
But the duo refuted such allegations explaining that they inadvertently placed the money in another case. Although they were charged with embezzlement, the owner of the company dropped the lawsuit against them.
However, the Public Prosecution carried on given the nature of the case, which is considered as a crime against the society as well. The High Criminal Court underlined in its verdict that the "evidences against the defendant are too weak to hold him guilty."
