Embezzlement case: BIC employee loses appeal

Manama  : An ex-employee in the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) lost his appeal against a six-month jail sentence in a forgery case yesterday. The defendant is said to have provided the management of the BIC with false purchase invoices, claiming that they were from a company that supplied the F1 race with some requirements.

The invoices were totally worth BD2,760, and the supplier was found to be a company owned by the defendant’s cousin.

An audit conducted on the purchases made by the defendant found that his ill-practice began in 2011 and continued to 2013, when he was arrested.

The defendant alleged that he was receiving last-minute purchase orders from many departments and he was doing his utmost to fulfil them. But an official at the BIC denied his claims, stating that there wasn’t any last minute order during the F1 race. He said that the sole thing was requested from the defendant was to buy ice cubes. The Bahraini defendant was held guilty of embezzlement.
