Two sentenced to one year in jail for hashish consumption

The High Criminal Court has sentenced a man and his accomplice to one year in jail for hashish consumption.

They were also fined BD500 for the crime. The duo was originally charged with drug peddling. But, the judges acquitted them of this charge due to lack of evidence.

The defendants were arrested following a tip-off to the anti-drugs department at the Ministry of Interior. The tip-off stated that the man was selling drugs. As a result, an undercover agent was assigned to conduct a sting operation to catch the man red-handed.

The police officer in plain clothes convinced the defendant to sell BD100 of hashish to him and the defendant fell into the trap.

They met in Isa Town, and police arrested him. After arresting the man, the police raided his home from where they arrested his accomplice.

Both were tested positive for hashish.
