Bahrain Condemns Iranian Attack on UAE Vessel
Bahrain has strongly condemned what it described as an aggressive Iranian attack targeting a vessel belonging to the UAE's ADNOC company while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement issued on August 15, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attack was a flagrant violation of international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and UN Security Council Resolution 2817.
Bahrain affirmed its full solidarity with the UAE and its right to take measures to protect its sovereignty, security, stability and interests. The ministry stressed that the security of the UAE is an integral part of Bahrain's security, reflecting the close ties between the two countries.
The ministry also called on the UN Security Council to fulfil its responsibilities by taking deterrent measures to protect freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and prevent attacks on commercial vessels and oil tankers.
Bahrain further urged Iran to cease such attacks and called for the Strait of Hormuz to be fully and unconditionally reopened to safeguard regional stability and global energy and food security.
