Bahrain urges UN action over Hormuz attack

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the Iranian attack targeting two ADNOC tankers while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

The Ministry described the attack as a serious threat to regional security and stability and the safety of maritime navigation, as well as a violation of international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, relevant UN Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2817, and resolutions of the International Maritime Organization.

Bahrain affirmed its full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and support for all measures taken by the UAE to protect its security, stability and vital interests.

The Ministry stressed that the security and stability of the UAE are an integral part of the national security of Bahrain and the GCC countries, reflecting the deep-rooted ties between the two countries.

Bahrain also called on the UN Security Council to fulfil its responsibilities by taking decisive and deterrent measures to compel Iran to immediately end hostile acts, respect freedom of navigation and ensure the safety of commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz and other international waterways.

The Ministry stressed that the Strait of Hormuz must not be used as a means of political pressure or economic blackmail, underscoring its importance to energy security, the flow of food and medicine supplies, global trade, and regional and international stability.
