The High Criminal Court has sentenced three defendants to 15 years in prison each in two separate terrorism cases, according to the Deputy Chief Prosecutor for Terrorism Crimes.

The defendants were convicted of joining a terrorist group and working on its behalf to carry out hostile and terrorist acts targeting the Kingdom of Bahrain and its interests.

Two of the defendants were also fined BD2,000 each, while the court ordered the confiscation of seized items.

Investigations by the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science, based on information received by the Public Prosecution, established that the defendants had been assigned various tasks, including activities linked to terrorist operations and the transfer, receipt and delivery of funds intended to support and finance members of the group.

The Public Prosecution said the defendants admitted to the charges during questioning. Witnesses were heard and technical experts examined the seized devices.

The cases were referred to the High Criminal Court after investigations were completed. The prosecution said all legally required safeguards were observed during the hearings, including the presence of defence counsel and the defendants’ right to present their defence.

The Public Prosecution reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing crimes linked to terrorist groups and taking legal action against those proven to be involved.
