The Court of Cassation has upheld a BD1,100 fine against a university student convicted of causing a 3% permanent disability to a university employee and insulting three staff members while they were carrying out their duties.
The case stemmed from an October 2025 incident in which the student entered a faculty-only restroom and became involved in a dispute with university employees. As she left an office, she forcefully opened a door, fracturing an employee's wrist and causing a permanent disability, according to a forensic report.
The court also upheld her conviction for verbally insulting three university staff members, while the employee's civil compensation claim has been referred to the competent civil court.
