No Space for Divided Loyalty
Security now starts in the home, the classroom and the newsroom as much as it does on the street, MPs said after the Interior Minister warned there was no room in Bahrain for divided loyalty.
Maryam Al Sayegh and Waleed Al Doseri said General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa’s talks with local newspaper editors carried a message: Bahrain has one flag, one shared cause and one allegiance.
Both MPs sit on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee.
Ms Al Sayegh said the minister had made clear that policing alone could not shield the country from modern threats. Public awareness, sound judgement and a firm sense of belonging were also key.
She said his words drew on the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the work of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to keep Bahraini society united and alert to outside threats.
The MP praised Interior Ministry staff for their work in facing Iranian attacks across several fronts and said their skill and sacrifice had helped protect the kingdom.
She also cast the press, academics and writers as partners in the fight against lies and rumour.
Security media and the National Communication Centre, she said, stood beside the police by giving the public clear facts and strengthening trust in state bodies.
Mr Al Doseri said the meeting showed how closely the press and the security services must work when the region faces strain.
‘The security and stability of the homeland are a shared duty,’ he said, adding that strong public awareness and a deep-rooted Bahraini identity were as important as police action.
He said the minister’s rejection of divided loyalty marked a clear red line and gave plain meaning to citizenship under the leadership of His Majesty the King.
Mr Al Doseri also praised the Crown Prince and Prime Minister’s support for the security services and the Interior Ministry’s response to Iranian attacks.
Families, schools, the media, state bodies and the wider public must work as one to protect Bahrain’s identity and keep the country united, he added.
