Preserving Bahrain’s Memory

Muharraq Governor praises writers and researchers documenting the Kingdom’s heritage and history.

Muharraq Governor Salman bin Isa bin Hindi Al Mannai has praised the efforts of Bahraini writers and researchers in preserving the Kingdom’s national heritage and documenting its historical and social memory.

He highlighted the importance of their publications, describing them as valuable additions to Bahrain’s literary and cultural collection that help record key stages of the country’s history and authentic heritage for future generations.

The Governor made the remarks during a meeting with Dr. Khalid Ismail Al Alawi, who presented him with a copy of his book “From the Memory of the Fareej: Stories and Testimonies from the Days of the Past.”

Al Mannai commended the author’s documentation efforts, noting that the book provides an important record of the social and cultural life of Muharraq during the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.

He said the publication highlights significant historical landmarks, including Arad Fort, Al-Hidaya Al-Khalifia School, and Al Shabab Café, while reflecting concepts of authenticity and national identity through detailed accounts of daily life in the traditional neighbourhoods known as “Fareej” and the old family homes, or “Al Bait Al Oud.”

The book also features more than 400 exclusive historical photographs documenting that era and preserving memories of Bahrain’s past.

Dr. Khalid Ismail Al Alawi expressed his appreciation to the Muharraq Governor for his support and interest in historical and intellectual publications. He said the book serves as a documentary testimony highlighting an important part of Bahrain’s national memory and showcasing the contributions and sacrifices of early pioneers and figures from the past.

He added that the publication aims to serve as a reference documenting Bahraini society’s history for present and future generations.
