Bahrain's Court of Cassation has upheld a three-year prison sentence and a BD2,000 fine against an Asian woman convicted of exploiting a 20-year-old domestic worker through forced labour.

The court also ordered the woman to cover the cost of returning the victim to her home country.

According to court documents, the victim worked for nine different families between January 2024 and January 2025 without receiving wages, apart from payments during her first two months. The defendant also withheld the worker's passport and illegally collected her salaries.

Investigations by the Ministry of Interior and the Labour Market Regulatory Authority found evidence of human trafficking and unlicensed labour recruitment. The Court of Cassation has now confirmed the conviction.
